Sign in to Chrome

Signing in to Google Chrome Browser allows you to access browser settings that have been synced to your Google Account. This means you can use it all other on other computers and devices you have. Your Google Account saves your bookmarks, tabs, history, and other browser preferences. You can then load these settings whenever you use Google Chrome Browser on any device.

How to Sign in to Google Chrome

  1. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  3. Select Sign in to Chrome
  4. Sign in to your Google Account using your Google Account credentials in the dialog that appears.
  5. You can choose what you want to sync in the “Confirm sync settings“. Sync everything: Click the “OK, sync everything” button. Choose specific items to sync: Click “Advanced” and select “Choose what to sync” from the drop down menu.You can make changes to the following checkboxes for the items you want to sync:
    Autofill
    Bookmarks
    Apps
    Extensions
    History
    Passwords
    Themes
    Open tabs
    Settings
  6. You have the option of changing Advanced encryption settings. Passwords are encrypted with your Google Account credentials. If you choose to encrypt all your synced data with your own sync pass phrase, you might get a sync error notification on other computers. You will need a new pass phrase to solve the error.
  7. Click OK to finish the settings

On Startup

Google Chrome Browser will open startup page when you first launch your browser or click the Home button. However you can set them separately, which means you can set different pages for Home and startup page.

Open the New Tab page

  1. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  3. Select Open the New Tab page under “On startup”.

 Continue where you left off

  1. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  3. Select Continue where you left off under “On startup”.

Open a specific page or set of pages

  1. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  3. Click Open a specific page or set of pages under “On startup”.
  4. Open Set pages.
  5. Enter the web address where you see Add a new page.
  6. OK to finish your settings.

 Appearance

In the appearance section you can choose your homepage under Show Home button and deselect bookmarks bar from Always show the bookmarks bar option.

  1. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  3. Select Show Home button under “Appearance”.
  4. When you click “Show Home button”  a Change link will appear.
  5. Click Chance and select the Option Use the New Tab page or select Open this page and enter your new page URL.

Always show the bookmarks bar

  1. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  3. Deselect Always show the bookmarks bar under “Appearance”.

 Search

Google Chrome Browser’s Omnibox feature allows you search the web directly. It’ll automatically return search results from a search engine which you can set yourself.

Set which search engine is used when searching from the omnibox.

  1. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  3. Select the search engine you want to use from the drop down menu. If the search engine you want to use doesn’t appear in the menu, select Manage search engines.
  4. Select the search engine and Click the Make default button.

 Adding, removing, editing search engines

  1. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  3. Select Manage search engines under “Search”. Add a search engine: Just fill out the fields to set up the search engine. Edit a search engine: Clicking on a search engine from the list will allow you modify it. Remove a search engine: Clicking on a search engine from the list will show X (Delete this item) at the end of the row.
  4. You can add a new Search engine on the Other search engines section.

 Users

When you share a computer in your household, you can add new users to Google Chrome Browser. Each user signs in with their own credentials, so everyone have their own personalized copies of Google Chrome on the same computer.

Add new user

  1. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  3. Click Add new user under “Users”.
  4. Choose a picture and enter a user name for the new Google Chrome user.google-chrome-create-user
  5. Click on Create.

Edit a user

  1. Select the user you want to edit by clicking on the icon located on the top corner of your window.
  2. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  3. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  4. Select the user in the users section and Click Edit.
  5. In the “Edit user” dialog that appears, make your changes and Click OK to save your changes.

Delete this user

  1. Select the user you want to edit by clicking on the icon located on the top corner of your window.
  2. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  3. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  4. Select the user in the users section and Click Delete.

Import bookmarks and settings

You can use this button to import bookmarks and settings from another browser. Following items can be selected: Browsing history, Favorites/Bookmarks, Saved passwords, Search engines.

 Default Browser

A default browser is the browser that starts up automatically when you click on a link in another program on your device. You can decide which browser is your default browser.

How to make Google Chrome your default browser

  1. Select the user you want to edit by clicking on the icon located on the top corner of your window.
  2. Click the Chrome Menu (customize and control Google Chrome) on the browser toolbar.
  3. Select Settings on the Chrome Menu.
  4. Click Make Google Chrome the default browser In the “Default browser” section.
